We are designers and makers…

We are designers and makers and so we produce things; we want the things we produce to have beauty and longevity. 

When we started Pond one of our main concerns was that we didn’t want to add to the material waste and the ecological cost of the production of materials. To this end, all our metal is 100% recycled gold or silver. Our commitment extends to the use of salvaged chain and vintage beads as well as hand making components including clasps and ear hooks from recycled gold.

Finding inspiration in the familiar and overlooked has always been a focal point for us as designers. Accordingly, broken and unwanted jewellery was a natural starting point for our collection. Using simple techniques rooted in ancient jewellery practices, and recycling carefully selected components in glass, natural pearl and ceramic, our one-of-a-kind pieces transcend the sum of their parts.

All Pond jewellery comes in a jewellery box made from 40% recycled boxcard and is fully recyclable.

Our pieces are sent in The FSC® certified recyclable boxes with fully recycled and recyclable paper and postcards. 

100% recycled gold

Gold mining is an environmentally destructive practice and so we aim to make all of our collection from 100% recycled gold.  Mining not only produces extraordinary amounts of waste but also destroys habitats and displaces communities as well as contaminating local ecosystems with the chemicals used in gold extraction such as mercury and cyanide.  There is enough gold circulating in the world currently that there is no need to continue the harmful practice of mining.  This is why we are committed to using only recycled gold and silver in our jewellery.  This includes our chain and our handmade clasps and earrings backs.

In a market saturated with gold plated jewellery we use 100% solid recycled gold.  We choose to use real gold rather than plating so that we have complete control over our materials.  This decision means you can enjoy complete confidence that the piece you receive is what it appears to be and will remain so, with due care, throughout its lifetime.

All of our pieces, where appropriate, are hallmarked, in London.

Handmade by us

Every Pond piece is hand made by us in our London studio.  We are the designers and the makers behind each piece. We avoid use of pre-made components such as necklace clasps. Any outsourcing required, such as casting, is done through industry specialists in London’s Hatton Garden who we have a working relationship with spanning decades.  We do not hold large amounts of stock, preferring to make to demand.  This means your piece is made especially for you and so we are happy to accommodate personal preferences, including personalisation and a preferred carat of gold.
